Environment America is a federation of state-based, citizen-funded environmental advocacy organizations. Its mission is to advocate for and protect clean air, water, and open spaces in the United States. The organization and its state affiliates work together at the local, state, and national level in the United States to fulfill the mission.

The national organization was founded in November 2007, although many of the state organizations were active many years before this date. Environment America joins the growing environmental movement in the United States. The organization publishes an annual scorecard of U.S. Congress members based on how they voted on environmental issues in that year's session.[1] Environment America also publishes many reports on various environmental issues such as pollution and state energy policies.[2] Its mission is similar to the Sierra Club's and the two often work together in various environmental efforts.[3]
Environment America, like many branches of its state affiliates, works with the Fund for Public Interest Research (FFPIR) to recruit members and run campaigns across the state through canvassing offices. The funding that results from this is used to hire staff who conduct research, coordinate statewide campaigns, hold press conferences across the state, and lobby in Washington D.C. on a variety of environmental issues.
As of February 2010, it has 28 state affiliates:[4]
